Exchange program

Also called: Trade-in, Exchange offer

An exchange program is an arrangement in which a dealership takes a buyer's existing vehicle as part-payment toward a new one, valuing it on the spot and often adding an exchange bonus, which removes the buyer's need to sell privately first.

Exchange program in dealership marketing

Exchange is one of the strongest hooks in dealer marketing because it addresses the most common reason a purchase stalls: the buyer has a car to get rid of. An 'exchange bonus' campaign brings in buyers who had not planned to visit that month.

It also feeds the used-car business, since exchanged vehicles become reconditioned or certified pre-owned stock, so the same campaign can generate both a new-car sale and used inventory.
