Certified pre-owned

Also called: CPO

A certified pre-owned (CPO) vehicle is a used vehicle that has passed a defined inspection and reconditioning standard and is sold with a warranty, usually under a manufacturer-backed programme, so that the buyer gets some of the assurance of a new-car purchase at a used-car price.

Certified pre-owned in dealership marketing

For dealers, CPO is a trust product. The inspection report, the warranty, and the brand behind the programme answer the used-car buyer's central worry, which is what they cannot see. That makes CPO listings easier to market than unbranded used stock and justifies a price premium.

Marketing CPO well means showing the certification itself: what was inspected, what is covered, and for how long, rather than simply adding a badge to the listing.
