DND registry
Also called: Do Not Disturb, NCPR
The DND registry is India's national list of mobile numbers whose owners have opted out of promotional calls and messages, and telecom operators block promotional SMS to any number on it regardless of who is sending.
DND registry in dealership marketing
For a dealership this means festive offers and launch announcements by SMS will not reach a meaningful share of its own customer base. Service messages, such as a booking confirmation or a service reminder to an existing customer, can still be delivered if they are registered under the right category.
The practical workaround is consent: a customer who has explicitly opted in to hear from the dealership can be messaged under a service-explicit template, and WhatsApp with opt-in is not governed by the SMS DND rules.
